This procedure is defined as an operation after a patient has had a previous weight loss surgery.
The next procedure/operation that maybe considered is called Revisional surgery. There are a number of reasons why patients may need revisional surgery including: failure to lose weight, complications from previous surgery, and management of reflux/diabetes.
This could be a patient who may have had previously:
- lap band surgery
- gastric sleeve surgery
- gastric bypass surgery
- vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) surgery – was done in the 1990s.
Any revisional surgery carries increased risks. Dr. Ahmed strongly recommends patients have private health insurance before undergoing revisional surgery.
