This procedure is defined as an operation after a patient has had a previous weight loss surgery.
The next procedure/operation that maybe considered is called Revisional surgery. There are a number of reasons why patients may need revision surgery including: failure to lose weight, complications from previous surgery, and management of reflux/diabetes.
This could be a patient who may have had:
- lap band to lap sleeve gastrectomy
- lap band to lap gastric bypass surgery
- lap sleeve to lap gastric bypass etc.
Any revisional surgery carries exactly the same risks as if the same procedure/operation would be done first up, but with the risks of adhesions, altered surgical anatomy and the need for open surgery, the risks are HIGHER.
